MASTITIS

Inflammation and infection of the breast, almost always in nursing mothers
Symptoms: Initially, the mother may feel slightly sick, not knowing what is bothering her. She has a slight fever, is tired and has generalized aches and pains. FIBROCYSTIC DISEASE (MAMMARY DYSPLASIA)

Chronic condition in which there is formation of multiple cysts in the breasts.
Symptoms: Initially, there may be no symptoms. Often, a woman discovers a lump in her breast, leading to the diagnosis.
More often, there is breast discomfort or pain, worsened before menstruation and often associated with tender lumps in the breasts.
Nipple discharge is common and may be clear, yellowish, greenish, brown or black in color. Lumps in the breast often vary in size over time, coming and going.
Cause: Unknown, but may be due to hormone fluctuations, since it is a problem primarily of mature women, before menopause. Read the rest of this entry »
